Where to begin....first our waitress insulted me, then denied 2 little boys the juice box that was clearly included with their meals. Her reasoning was that we ordered a chocolate milk and orange juice (which cost $2.50 each!) prior to looking at the menu. That's like denying someone fries with their burger because they ordered an appetizer. It just doesn't make sense. Too bad, I thought we had a new place to go, but never again will I choose maxi's.

Love this place. Beats the chain restaurants hands down. No cook by picture here. Real chef cooking real food. Joe H

Went on a slow night to make sure my steak would be right. It wasn't. I had an attentive server who wanted to make sure she got it right. She did. The cook missed - too raw. They say the cut I had was a NY Strip. It wasn't. It was a quality cut, was every bit, if not more than the 12 oz promised, and it had great taste. It just wasn't an NY Strip. The cook later came out and was clearly interested in what was wrong. I am fully confident this was just one of those things that can happen. The man knows flame cooking. The salad was standard, except it included raw green pepper, which was welcome and tasty. The blue cheese dressing was more sweet than sharp, which I do not prefer. The price was reasonable - especially as it was $2 that night off the steak I wanted. I'll definitely give them another visit.

This is my favorite restaurant! The pork chops and mushrooms are the best I've ever had! Their only weakness is their baked potatoes but other than that the food is great.

This place is cute on the inside. The outside is a little off setting because there are no windows and I always assume that if a restaurant doesn't have windows that means there are probably naked girls dancing in it. When I saw a family going in I figured it was safe, which it was. Inside every table or booth has its own little wooden stall, like in a barn. The food was good, but there wasn't a lot that wasn't fried.

What do you expect of a restaurant barn? If you say country music, stalls and checkered table cloth, then you are right. Did you know that this place was a beauty salon once? My wife got her hair done in a bird's nest in 79 for a wedding... My wife had the pound of strip steak with mushrooms, a baked potato, and side salad. She gave 4.5 stars for the steak and mushrooms. I tasted it and agree with her. It only needed a little more seasoning. The side salad was uneventful and finished in a pool of water. This is so easy to fix, I don't understand why they don't do it. She had a strawberry daiquiri which she said was the best thing in her meal. I had the garden salad with chicken. The charbroiled chicken was awesome, and the veggies on the salad were adequate. The lettuce... well... it was iceberg. I understand iceberg lettuce for a side salad, but not for a main meal. And just like my wife's, my salad ended in a pool of water. I would have liked to get either spring mix, or romaine. And I would have expected a little more veggies. Note that because of the size of the salad, I needed two dressing cups instead of the one they normally give. All in all, the value is good for the money, and they could easily go to four stars by changing little things like the lettuce they use for their salads. The service is great and ambiance appropriate for their name. Stick to the meat and you will be happy with your meal. And hopefully they will seek to evolve and improve on the little things that can bring them a fourth star.

Decided to go to Maxis to eat tonight since I haven't been there for ages. It was the Worse experience. Took exactly almost a hour to chicken strip and p hilly beef sandwich. Ordered taco salad with it. Taco salad was brought out 1/2 hour before anything. Waitress said she would check the time but never came back and said anything. Then she said depends on what side of the kitchen it comes out of!! WTH??? Table came in after us, ordered after us, got food first, and finished before mine was out!!! I work in a restaurant, so I know how things should be handled. This Was not handled at All!! Poor service and food was not good. Very Disappointed!!!!

We've always driven by Maxi's but never bothered to stop until last night. The place is casual with wooden booths. We were seated immediately and greeted by our server. The menu is pretty basic - the appetizers consisted of mostly fried items so we passed. There are a couple of salads, a section of burgers and sandwiches and dinner entrees consisting of steaks, prime rib, ribs and a couple of seafood dishes. We weren't in the mood for a huge steak dinner so we stuck with the sandwiches. I ordered the Chicken Specialty Sandwich which was a perfectly grilled chicken breast with ham, mozzarella and American cheeses. It was huge, served on french bread and a side of steak fries. My fiance ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich that was fried and also served with steak fries. He said it was good. The portions were large for the price - both sandwiches were $7.95. I had two glasses of wine and he had two beers and our bill totaled $34. We would recommend it for a casual lunch. We may stop back sometime to check out the steaks.

Reading the reviews and boy are they mixed... Never EVER had a bad meal here. The place is cozy and friendly and you aren't bumping elbows with a stranger sitting next to you. The drinks are reasonable and generously poured. The dinners and sandwiches are all huge compared to other establishments. You can go down the street and get cheaper but you won't find better! Since they don't take reservations I was surprised to read the review complaining about the waiting time. It's well worth the wait every single time. If your into fancy schmancy then this may not be the place for you... If you want good ole down home goodness... This is it!!! The prime rib is to die for!!!

I live just a few miles from Maxi's ask we eat here once every month or two. Everything we have ever ordered has been excellent. The New York Strip is always deliciously seasoned and cooked exactly as I order it (rare-medium rare). I've ordered the fish which was good. The dinners come with a soup or salad and a potato. Lettuce is always fresh on the salad. My only complaint is the service which isn't typically very good. Only one time have we had a very friendly, attentive server. If all the servers were as friendly and attentive as this one server, we would eat here at least once ever 3 weeks, if not more.

This place was HORRIBLE. My husband ordered the BBQ ribs and they had absolutely NO meat on the bones! I ordered fish and chips and they were gross and greasy. I don't see what people like in this place. It is so overrated. **I did to have "fish and chips", maybe it was under a different name like deep-fried perch.

Since a description of the seating was already given, I'll get right down to the food. Steaks are what you come here for. There are no other charbroiled steaks as flavorful as these in the Michiana area. My husband even prefers them to Ruth's Chris. You get a generous hand cut 12-13 oz NY strip for $16.75, salad, potato, and garlic bread. Other items on the menu include a very tender rack of ribs, prime rib (Saturday Specials), fillet, a sirloin for 2, fried Chicken (they make it when you order this is the juiciest fried chicken you'll have.) Perch, burgers and a few other items we have yet to try. The appetizer selection is limited, I'm not thrilled with it, which is why I gave it a 4 stars instead of 5. The staff is very friendly and will accommodate your every need, children are welcome. Don't miss this gem the next time you're on the south side of South Bend. Depending on the weekend, you might want to call ahead for seating, and hours. I believe they are open for dinner only.
